Sep 18, 2007 Bacteria Found in Soft Serve Ice Cream By
This is why it is important to make sure and clean your ice cream equipment properly:
Belgium's federal food agency says almost 50 percent of soft serve ice cream samples tested positive for illness-causing bacteria.
The agency blames the problem on poor maintenance of ice cream equipment, Expatica reported Thursday. The bacteria also multiplies when ice cream is stored at too high a temperature.
The agency said the risk of bacteria is higher in soft serve than regular ice cream, which is generally produced in factories instead of individual stores.
