Oct 28, 2008 Ice Cream Might Taste Best Without a Spoon By
Tara Pfahler
According to a recent study, you may find your ice cream more enjoyable in a cone, rather than eating it with a spoon from a bowl.
Massey food technology senior Kay McMath says that the full flavor of ice cream is released only when ice cream reaches at least room temperature in the mouth. Eating ice cream with a spoon provides more insulation, keeping the ice cream colder. Licking ice cream from a cone, however, allows it to warm in the mouth, and also reaches more taste buds on the tongue.
McMath admits that this may be difficult to prove, as many ice cream consumers have different perceptions of how ice cream tastes and why.
