Hi,my wife and I have been looking into opening our own italian Ice busines. Where we live there is not much if any competition yet. But eventually it will be here in Texas. We would like to start off with a small store and cart and are in the very beginning phases of research. We of course do not want to wait to long as we feel our location that we are looking into is perfect for this product. Growing up in NY we were spoiled with all of the great Ice Shops. That is what I want to bring to Texas only the best of the best,Freshly made italian Ices with fantastic flavor. Is there anyone out there that can help? I have ideas and thoughts but not sure where to begin. We have looked into a franchise but I feel the initial cost and prolonged cost is alot ,plus the control the franchisor would have over me.
So what specific questions do you have or what information do you need?
Originally we were going to go the franchise route. The more we look into it we fell that we can do it on our own. We have a fantastic location we can get,we know we can provide superior customer service. The issue is product of course our goal is to have the best italian ice anywhere. Do places like Rita's and Ralph's buy their mixes from a wholesaler? If so would I be able to buy from the same wholesaler? How do I find a good wholesaler with excellent product? I need to do all of this to start putting the business plan together. Im trying to figure out what my minimum up front investment needs to be. I do not want to ruch but also want to get going before someone else opens in or near the area we want to open.
I'd say the big franchise companies like Rita's make their own mixes which is why people would want to franchise with them and what sets them apart from others.
You can find wholesalers online and give them a call and ask for samples. You can then try a few out and see which one you like best. Or you can always make your own mixes.
There are also companies that don't charge franchise fees but do allow you to use their product and logo/brand name like these guys:
